4-H Animal Contests
General Contest Information
- No premiums will be awarded.
- Prizes will be awarded to contest winners.
- Pre-entries will be accepted until one hour prior to the start of each contest.
4-H Livestock Costume Contest

General Rules
- Cloverbud members (ages 5–7 as of January 1 of the current year) may enter with a poultry, rabbit, or goat project animal. All Cloverbud participants will receive a participation award.
- Eligible animals for 4-H members ages 8 and older (as of January 1 of the current year) include:
- Beef Cattle
- Dairy Cattle
- Sheep
- Goats
- Hogs
- Poultry
- Rabbits
- Cavies
- Hogs will be shown separately. All other animals must be shown on a leash or halter. Any animal that appears to be a safety threat will be excused from the contest.
- Animals must also be exhibited in another class at the 4-H Fair.
- Nothing harmful to the animal may be used as part of the costume.
- Participants may enter as an individual or as part of a team. Only one entry per exhibitor.
- Costumes may be worn by the animal, the exhibitor, or both. Exhibitors must wear closed-toe shoes.
4-H Livestock Market Master Showmanship Contest

General Rules
- Open to the current year's Master Showmanship winners from Department 6 Shows.
- Participants will be judged on their showmanship skills across multiple species. Classes will be selected at random from:
- Beef Steers
- Dairy Steers
- Market Dairy Goats
- Market Meat Goats
- Market Poultry
- Market Rabbits
- Market Hogs
- Market Lambs
- The contest winner is not eligible to compete the following year.
- If the previous year's winner earns an individual Master Showmanship title again, the Reserve Champion Master Showman in that species will participate instead.
- Winners become eligible to compete again two years after their win.
- Example: The 2026 winner may not compete in 2027 but is eligible again in 2028.
- Prizes will be awarded.

- Participants will be judged on their showmanship skills across multiple species. Classes will be selected at random from:
- Dairy Cattle
- Dairy Goats
- Meat Goats
- Beef Cattle
- Swine
- Sheep
- Rabbits
- Cavies
- Poultry
- The contest winner is not eligible to compete the following year.
- If the previous year's winner earns an individual Master Showmanship title again, the Reserve Champion Master Showman in that species will participate instead.
- Winners become eligible to compete again two years after their win.
- Example: The 2025 winner may not compete in 2026 but is eligible again in 2027.
